Quantitative, linear analytic mind severed from qualitative, dynamic, aesthetic mind is like a commercial forest: homogenized trees growing from flat grids with sparse underbrush and little ecological diversity.

Holistic cognition -- quantitative, linear analytic mind thoroughly integrated with, and grounded in, qualitative, dynamic, aesthetic mind -- is like an old growth forest thick with endless ecological diversity; dense underbrush; huge, strong, wise elder trees; sprightly saplings; wild vines; a venerable chorus of birds; an astounding array of insects, rodents, ungulates, reptiles, fungi, bacteria, bushes, grasses, shrubs, streams, stones, swamps, rivers, flowers, nests, natural compost, and fresh, oxygen-rich air.
